Kerala has decided to provide pre-primary education in tribal language. The Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) has developed an educational plan to provide the tribal children pre-primary education in their own language.
The article stated that the Anganwadi teachers will impart education in the language used by the tribal groups. The curriculum has been prepared and includes the study of the origin, history, cultural diversity and social life of the different tribal groups.
This project will be implemented as a pilot project in the Palakkad district in the Attappady block. Later, the project will be expanded to the entire state. More updates will be offered on this.
Reasons for implementing this plan
When tribal children enroll in the Anganwadis near their settlement at the pre-primary level they find themselves lost. They find the languages used for instruction and communication very strange. This follows into primary education too.
Majority of the children drop out of school as they find it difficult to cope up with the classroom teachings and activities, read the languages and understand the textbooks
